Karen Community of Canada Holds Annual General Meeting in British Columbia The Karen Community of Canada (KCC) convened its Annual General Meeting (AGM) from August 31st to September 1st in Chilliwack, British Columbia. Over the course of two days, twenty representatives from various Karen communities across Canada gathered to review the organization’s activities, assess decisions made over the past year, and discuss plans for future initiatives. In addition, organizations such as Stronghold and the Karen Canadian Education Alliance presented the work they are doing to support Karen people in their homeland. These contributions underscore the collective effort to assist communities affected by conflict in Burma (Myanmar). During the meeting, the KCC reaffirmed its commitment to advocacy, the protection of children and women, and ongoing support for the democratic movement in Burma. The organization aims to strengthen its work in these areas as part of its mission to serve the Karen community in Canada and abroad. As part of the AGM, elections were held to appoint new leaders to the KCC Executive Committee (EC). The newly elected members, including Chairperson Prezena Htoo, Vice Chair Slone Phan, Secretary Dah Law Eh Soe, Assistant Secretary Moo Ra Paw, Treasurer Million Gold, and fifteen additional EC members, will guide the organization’s efforts in the coming year. Their leadership is expected to play a crucial role in advancing the KCC’s objectives and ensuring continued support for the Karen people.
